DEPARTMENT HISTORY

Date of origin of chair coincides with the period of origin of the Azerbaijan State University. So, since 1920 year at university the psychology course is taught. From the end of this year the chair of Psychology is created and acad. A.O.Makovelsky is appointed the manager of this chair. In 1947-1948 years in connection with opening at philological faculty of branch of logic and psychology the new chair - «Logic and psychology» is created. Acad. A.O.Makovelsky is selected managing new chair. Despite the short-term existence (in 1953 year reception on this branch has been stopped), activity of this chair has played a considerable role in development of a psychological science republics and in preparation of domestic experts in psychology. The majority of graduates of this branch till this day continue the fruitful scientific and pedagogical activity. In 1959-1960th years, in connection with A.O.Makovelsko's leaving in the Academy of sciences, managing the logic and psychology chair selects the prof. M.D.Magerramov.
In 1960 year the logic and psychology chair is divided in connection with closing of corresponding branch of philological faculty, and at university the chair «Pedagogics and psychology» is created. In 1960-1970 years this chair M.D.Magerramov supervises over the prof.
In 1970 managing the pedagogics and psychology chair selects the doctor of psychological sciences, professor A.S.Bayramov. In 1991 year of chair of pedagogics and psychology separate and continue the activity as independent chairs. Till 1997 year over psychology chair the doctor of psychological sciences, the honoured worker of a science, prof. A.S.Bayramov supervised.
In 1997 year managing the psychology chair appoints the doctor of psychological sciences, prof. B.H.Aliev. In April of 2000 year prof. B.H.Aliev opens the research laboratory - «Experimental psychology» that marks itself a new stage in development of domestic psychology.
In 1991 year for the first time in republic of prof. B.Aliev creates research laboratory «judicial-psychological examination». From 1999 year of prof. B.Aliev is the chairman of Council of the Higher Certifying commission at the President of the Azerbaijan Republic on protection of dissertations on psychological sciences (doctor's and candidate). Also is the founder and the editor-in-chief of magazine "Psychology" published since the same year. B.Aliev - the author of 15 monographies, textbooks, manuals and over 110 scientific articles. Is deputy Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic of II Convocation (in 2000-2005.) and III Convocation and the vice-president of the constant Commission on affairs of science and education Milli Majlis
