SHORT BIOGRAPHY
I.A Rustamov was born on February 15, 1932 in Duz-Rasullu village of Shinikh district of Gadabay. In 1949, he entered the Department of Philosophy under the Faculty of Historyof the Azerbaijan State University (now Baku State University) and graduated with honors from the University in 1954. He defended his PhD thesis on "Socio-political and philosophical thoughts of Hasan bey Zardaby" in 1961, doctoral dissertation on "Philosophical problems of development of natural science in Azerbaijan (beginning of XIX and XX centuries)" in 1972.
He got degrees of Associate Professor in 1965 and Professor in 1977. In July of the same year, he participated in the All-Union theoretical conference organized by the CC SUCP at the represantative of CC of Azerbaiajan CP on the theme "Complex approach to education." He began his career at the Department of Philosophy of Baku State University, where he worked until 1984 as a laborant, chief laborant, teacher, senior teacher, associate professor, professor, and secretary of the University Free Party Committee. From 1984 to 1987, he was the head of the Department of Philosophyof the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy, deputy director of the Party History Institute under the Azerbaijan Communist Party in 1987-1988, head of the Department of Philosophy of the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy in 1988-1994, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan in1994-1999, Vice-rector for International Relations of Baku State University in 1999-2004, and since 2004 –up to now, Head of the Department of Sociology at Baku State University.
In 1991, he was awarded with the medal named after Academician S.I. Vavilov, in 2007, he was awarded the badge "Advanced Education Worker of the Republic of Azerbaijan", and was electedthe External Full Member (Academician)of the International Academy of Modern Sciences named after Lutfi Zadeh.In 2009, he was awarded the "Glory" order on the 90th anniversary of BSU. He has trained 30 PhDs and 6 Doctors of Sciences. He is the author of 10 books, 4 monographs, about 170 articles. Currently, Associate professors of the Department, T.Aghayev, A.Mammadova, U.Shafiyev, S.Ismayilova, R.Mammadova are working on their doctoral dissertations, 8 doctorates and candidates for a degree on their dissertations thesis under his scientific leadership.
I.Rustamov is a member of the Defense Council at the Institute of Philosophy of ANAS and Baku State University, as well as a member of the Problem Council at the Senior Scientific Council at BSU, at the Institute of Philosophy of ANAS.

He has trained 30 candidates of sciences and 6 doctors of sciences. Currently, he is a scientific adviser for 5 doctoral dissertations.
